Ândrea and Marius – 12 May 2012
Saint Michael and All Angel’s Church Abingdon, Oxfordshire
The classic beauty of an old English church and the power of years of life and love built an unrivalled backdrop for the nuptials of Ândrea and Marius on this bright, sunny day in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. I was truly honoured to have been the selected photographer from the vast availability of wedding photographers in Abingdon. It was a lovely ceremony, of family in nature. The couple, having been together for quite some time, involved their three young sons intricately into the ceremony, providing my camera a large variety of wedding party subjects alongside the very attractive and obviously loving bride and groom. To the pleasant surprise of those in attendance, the opening hymn was belted out by a wheelchair bound vicar lifted some six feet above the crowd. The power of his voice held the congregation in awe for the entirety of the hymn. The humour of his character carried on throughout what quickly became a stunningly beautiful exchanging of vows; the couple standing below the huge, arched stained glass that adorns the pulpit of Saint Michael and All Angel’s Church. Outside, daffodils bloomed bright yellow, highlighting the deep green of the wild grass across from the church, giving perfect opportunity for some family wedding photography in Abingdon. In the back garden of the couple’s Abingdon, Oxfordshire home, a very personal reception was held. No Oxfordshire wedding photographer has had a more breathtaking and colourful setting for shots; highly complementary for the South African diamond miner, his bride (a photography enthusiast herself) and their guests. In the garden, a large Marquee displayed the names of the bride and groom, and a beautiful apple tree was decorated tastefully with goodies for the children. Within the tented reception area were tables adorned in white and lavender. Near the wedded couple’s table sat the four tiered wedding cake comprised of many individual white cupcakes. A lavender, frosted bow sat atop each one. The South African caterer brought a spread of delectable delights from home, featuring a spit-roasted, whole wild boar and other delicious dishes of South African influence. The wedding and reception were a delight to attend and a wonder to photograph. From the charm of the old English church to the natural setting of a light and personal garden reception, so many opportunities were presented to me for stunning natural photos that I’m sure Ândrea and Marius will enjoy for years to come. As their Oxfordshire wedding photographer, I want to wish them the best and give thanks. I loved being a part of their special day.
