It was my first try at Davenport House wedding photography and I was mightily impressed with this Shropshire wedding venue. It is relatively new to the wedding industry but it ran like a well-oiled machine. If you couple that with the absolutely amazing location and you are on to a winner.
Unfortunately, at Katie & Tom’s wedding, there were smatterings of rain here & there which made things slightly tricky for me. I think the weather had it in for me, to be honest. I would get everyone out for group photos, and it would rain. When it stopped I got everyone out again, only for it to start raining again just as I was nearly ready to shot again. One of the joys of being a wedding photographer! Haha! We got there in the end though… 🙂
Regardless of the challenges I faced, it was an incredible wedding. Lots of fun and great company!! I cannot wait to visit Davenport House again…
Congratulations Katie & Tom!! 🙂
1) Please tell me how you first met?
We were both single and our mutual friends Grace & Ed arranged for us to meet one another on a blind date at the cinema. It was the most awful film and to top it off I threw popcorn all over Tom … but we were laughing from the moment we sat down!
2) When was it you knew they were the one?
I don’t think there was one moment for me, but looking back after we’d met I don’t think I imagined we wouldn’t stay together, I think I always envisaged our future together.
3) Could you give us the story of the proposal?
We’d been together for almost 8 years and were on holiday in Nerja – we visit almost every year to Tom’s family holiday home and it really is like a second home for us. It was a windy May evening and Tom suggested we take a walk down the ‘Balcon de Europa’ which is a large balcony on a cliff overlooking the Med. I was reluctant… I’d just curled my hair, it was a bit chilly, we’d walked down there so many times before… but Tom insisted. We got to the cliff edge and I turned towards Tom who was holding a ring box in his hand and before I could say anything he popped the question! I was in total shock, and just remember repeatedly asking Tom if he was being serious (!). Thankfully he was (that would’ve been an awful joke otherwise), I said yes and we sat down together and cried happy tears while people walked by probably assuming the worst had happened.
4) If you don’t mind sharing, can you tell me something quirky, funny or silly about your partner?
Even though I’m perceived as the animal lover in our relationship, Tom is a massive softy when it comes to animals, to the extent that he buried one of our goldfish who sadly died (I voted to flush it down the loo!)
5) What is your perfect day together?
On a beach, somewhere sunny.
6) Apart from the obvious, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
I know I should probably say something about spending the day with all of the people we love but if I’m honest, it’s the food! I love the menu we’ve picked and we spent an age deciding on what we’d eat on the day… I even based my dress decision around what I’d be comfortable in after stuffing my face haha!
7) What was it that inspired you to go for the theme or the decor you chose for your wedding?
Definitely the venue itself – one of the reasons we liked it so much was that it doesn’t really need much décor as it’s already so grand, inside and out!
8) Please tell me one thing you wish you had known at the beginning of your wedding planning process, that you could pass on to future brides reading this blog?
To go with your gut, there are so many options out there it’s like opening a can of worms once you start looking and that can get confusing! You like what you like so go with it.
9) When searching, what were you were looking for in a wedding venue?
We definitely wanted to get married fairly local and somewhere where we’d have exclusive use. But for me, what really sold Davenport House was the amazing setting – it was the very first venue we visited and nothing else compared to walking through the grand entrance, continuing through the house and reaching the rear lawn to see the most spectacular view!
10) Could you tell me the process you went through when you were looking for a wedding photographer?
That was easy – Duncan had taken the photos at our friend’s wedding and we loved their photos, so we didn’t really consider anyone else.
